The Ghisallo hill (Ghisall in Lombard) is a road pass that connects Valassina with the upper part of the Lariano Triangle. The side from Bellagio (probably the harder one) averages 4.5% gradient which is really misleading due to a stretch of flat (even downhill) section about half-way through: don't get fooled and come with adequate gearing! Coming from Osteno on Lake Lugano, we drove up Monte Tremezzo. First you drive uphill on the main road towards Laino. Soon you can then turn left and drive via the towns of Ponna Inferiore/ Ponna di Mezzo and Ponna Superiore in the direction of Monte Tremezzo - all on asphalt but always really steep! Then it continues on gravel/tar, in between it gets flat for a while. When you are out of the forest, you have managed most of the altitude and can enjoy the fantastic view - Lake Como in front and the Swiss mountains in the back - the effort is worth it.
