The Obelisk of Lanthöjden, located on the northern shore of Lake Roxen near Linköping, is a quiet yet symbolic landmark tied to the history of the Göta Canal. Erected in 1795, long before the canal itself was constructed, it was meant to mark the exact midpoint of the planned waterway. The project’s visionary, Count Baltzar von Platen, commissioned the monument as a statement of intent and ambition, celebrating Sweden’s bold plan to connect east and west through an inland passage. Today, surrounded by forest and overlooking the lake, the obelisk stands as both a historical marker and a hidden gem, reminding visitors of the ingenuity and determination that shaped one of the country’s greatest engineering feats.

The Gothenburg Canal was subsequently "straightened" here. A bridge leads to the island, where you'll find a memorial obelisk and information panels (also in German) explaining why this was done.

Undenäs Church is a church building in the Karlsborg Municipality of Sweden's Västra Götaland County. It is part of the Undenäs parish, which is part of the Diocese of Skara. The church is connected to the Undenäs cemetery.

Great national park, various hiking trails of varying difficulty. The signage is very good. Always great views of nature and lakes. Toilets, parking spaces and information at the park entrances.

Perfect cycle path. The newly renovated part still looks a bit barren at the moment, hopefully nature can do its part too.
