Shallow Bay forms a magnificent cove. Its long white sand beach will allow you a relaxing and calm stroll after your day of hiking. You can also simply sit down and enjoy the serenity of the place. Swimming is not forbidden there but we advise you to have a little thick leather all the same: it is a lake of glacial origin fed by snow from the fjords. The water is cold there. This landscape is the very representation that one has of New Zealand before coming there. Take the time to enjoy it.

Moturau Hut is a refuge with 40 places divided into dormitories. As with the other two Kepler Track refuges, it is essential to reserve your place well in advance: https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/fiordland/places/fiordland-national-park/things-to-do/huts/moturau-hut/ In addition, this refuge, unlike Iris Burn, does not have any camping pitches nearby. Moturau Hut is installed on a privileged site, facing Lake Manapouri, right in the center of Shallow Bay. This will allow you to dine or drink your morning coffee while enjoying a unique view of the fjords.
