Cromwell is a really beautiful village. It looks a bit like the Wild West. And yet: Cromwell is a historic town that is worth a stay. Take your time and explore the surrounding area on a few hikes. The city was founded during the gold rush in the second half of the 19th century. Built in the 19th century, Cromwell is now known for its numerous orchards. The town of Cromwell was built on the banks of the River Clutha, the second longest river in New Zealand. I recommend you follow the road that runs along the river - whether towards Queenstown or Roxburgh. This way you can discover wonderful and different landscapes. Brave travelers can rent bikes and set off to cover the Clutha Gold Trail; a route that connects several cities in the region. A nice alternative for the sporty ones among you.

The Farmers & Craft Market takes place in Old Cromwell on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Where you can buy local delicacies and works of art.

They are currently building more cycle trails which connect to this trail, which makes it the perfect place to plan a multi-day cycling trip!

After a steep climb you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of Cromwell and the Cromwellbasin. I recommend following the marked trail to Weitee and then returning to the SH8 via the Firewood Creek Track. When crossing the busy highway (Highway) great care is needed.
