The Aliste River is a watercourse that originates in the Sierra de la Culebra, in the district of San Pedro de las Herrerías, in the province of Zamora, Spain. Along its route, it passes through the towns that make up the valley of the region that bears its name. Some of these towns include Mahíde, Las Torres de Aliste, Pobladura de Aliste, Palazuelo de las Cuevas, San Vicente de la Cabeza, Bercianos de Aliste, Flores de Aliste, Gallegos del Río, Domez, Vegalatrave, Vide de Alba, El Castillo de Alba, and finally reaches Carbajales de Alba.

The Alba de Aliste Castle is an old medieval fortification located in the town of the same name, belonging to the municipality of Losacino, in the province of Zamora, Spain. The remains of the castle are located on a hill that overlooks the Aliste river and the Retael stream. Although its geographical environment is currently profoundly modified due to the construction of the Ricobayo dam, this castle had notable defensive value in its time.

We will find beautiful panoramic views walking along the road near the Valdoradas bridge, surely on our route to the La Palia waterfall.

Nice bridge over the Ricobayo reservoir that offers us excellent views of it and the entire environment that surrounds us. A few km away is the La Palia Waterfall, well known by nature lovers in the area. On one side of the bridge there is a parking lot where we can leave the car and start our route.

The La Palia waterfall is a charming place located in the municipality of Videmala and near the Ricobayo reservoir. It is recommended to go in the rainy season or spring to see the waterfall in all its splendor, even so, it is worth visiting any time of the year since it offers us a unique atmosphere. From Abejera, heading north to ascend the Sierra de Sesnandez, we come across this Potro de Herrar, a structure that is used to hold horses, donkeys or even cows to make it easier for them to be shoeed or treated. They can be seen in any of the rural towns of the Spanish geography.
