Groß Niendorf lies in a flat landscape without any major elevations. The place is in the middle of the town square of Sternberg, Goldberg, Crivitz and Parchim. The municipality of Groß Niendorf, which was independent until 2011, was administered by the Parchimer Umland office. It was the smallest and northernmost congregation in office. The 8,400 hectare area, the landscape protection area Dobbertiner Seenlandschaft and middle Mildenitztal, extends along the Mildenitz north of Goldberg over the Dobbertiner See, the Dobbiner and Klädener Plage to the Lenzener See in the area of the municipality of Mustin.
