Wartensee Castle is a real eye-catcher and the view over the battlements, the lake and the landscape is something special. Although the château cannot be visited, the owners have a heart for all those who would like to take a look behind the scenes. This means that the gardens and the chapel are open to the public. An absolute must-have.

A nice place with 2 larger barbecue areas. A barbecue area is a little below the castle, there is also a toilet there. Another barbecue area is near the castle. There are several covered picnic areas at the castle. A great place to stay, enjoy the view or watch the castle residents (lizards).

A detour is worthwhile here, the water around the castle is particularly beautiful. That looks very romantic.

Built at one of the most beautiful viewpoints over Lake Sempach, the previous building served as the seat of the bailiff who controls maritime traffic on Lake Sempach. In 1317, Ulrich von Wartensee appears in the files for the first time. The construction of Schloss Wartensee with the castle chapel probably also fell during this time. The St. Jost Chapel is dreaming in the southeast corner of the inner courtyard. The once much-visited pilgrimage site has died down and the former sanctuary is no longer consecrated. In this castle chapel, a communion and confession day was previously held on the Assumption of Mary, where the "plum indulgence" was awarded, so called because the plums ripened at this time of year. Unfortunately, nothing more can be found of the frogs and toads, made of silver and wood, which were donated as motifs by sick women. The castle was destroyed in the Sempach War. On September 14, 1514, Junker Councilor Peter Zukäs von Luzern acquired the farm and castle stalls at Wartensee and rebuilt the destroyed castle. The castle later served as the summer residence of the "Swiss King" Pfyffer von Altishofen. From 1647 to 1822 the castle was owned by the Schnyder von Wartensee. The talented musician and composer Xaver Schnyder von Wartensee sold it to his tenant family. The castle has been owned by the Rösli family since September 1st, 1888. In 1993 the castle was completely renovated and now shines in new splendor. Today, the Wartensee Castle serves primarily as a place of rest, meeting and contemplation. Everyone who appreciates this is welcome in the palace garden. A romantic story at: http://www.sempach.ch/de/portrait/geschichte/geschichtstraechtig/welcome.php?action=showinfo&info_id=4606
