You can ride right up to the castle then climb up onto the top. The views spectacular

From the bridge over the Loire and then to the right is a drama! Too narrow, poorly visible and even dangerous. Over the road to Artias is much better.

A very pleasant little visit, with a view of Le Puy-en-Velay and its surroundings. The castle is open almost every day; the ticket office is located near the church at the bottom of the castle. To enter the castle, you must insert a token, which is given at the ticket office.

This castle is definitely worth a visit. From this ancient fortress, you will have an incredible view of the village of Saint-Ilpize and Villeneuve d'Allier. Its strategic position allowed the Dauphins of Auvergne to monitor the Allier gorges.

Arlempdes Castle is the first fortress built on the banks of the Loire. Built on a rocky peak, this 13th century construction is a jewel of Velay. The castle has been included on the list of historic monuments since 1926. During the summer, it is possible to visit it through ASACHAR (Association for the Protection and Animation of Arlempdes Castle).

If the ruins are not of incredible interest to visit, the breathtaking view of the valley from the castle is well worth the detour and the few drops of sweat on the climb.
