Muri Monastery The dominant landmark of Muri is Muri Monastery, a Benedictine monastery almost 1000 years old. Its heart is the monastery church, the structure of which dates back to the 11th century, but most of it dates from the late 17th century. The church, which includes elements of the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque periods, is richly decorated with frescoes and carvings. The cloister, which contains a valuable cycle of stained glass from the 16th century, contains the Loreto Chapel with the Habsburg crypt. The hearts of the last imperial couple of the Austrian monarchy, Emperor Charles I and Empress Zita of Bourbon-Parma, rest here. Other members of the Habsburg family are also buried here. The monastery's valuable art treasures are exhibited in the monastery museum. There is also a permanent exhibition of the Alpine painter Caspar Wolf. The monastery church has five organs and concerts are held regularly.
