Twisty roads through the ancient and modern peat lakes.

From this vantage point at RSPB Ham Wall, you can take in stunning views of Glastonbury Tor rising prominently in the distance. This iconic hill, visible from many locations in Somerset, provides a perfect backdrop for the surrounding landscape.

Poignant picnic area, dedicated to the memory of the young Amy Thomas. From here you have a perfect view of the Tor.

Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve is a significant wetland situated just outside of Glastonbury in Somerset. There is a very diverse array of important wildlife species in this reserve, including the great white egret, a rare and majestic bird that was once extinct in the UK but has now made a comeback thanks to the reserve's conservation efforts. If you're interested in nature and wildlife, then this is an absolute must-see if visiting the Glastonbury area.

The A frames have been replaced with gates so it's much easier for bikes to enter now.

Gravel track along the former route of the Somerset Central Railway. Ham Wall is an RSPB managed wetland and a brilliant place to stop and immerse yourself in a landscape teeming with wildlife.

Deep in the Somerset Levels, the wetlands at Ham Wall Nature Reserve teem with wildlife. If you're lucky you might spot rare water voles and otters, bitterns and kingfishers, and huge flocks of murmurating starlings, all with views to Glastonbury Tor.

There are A frame barriers at both ends of the trail over the NNR. Although these are wider than the barriers at Ham Wall they may restrict larger bikes, trailers, etc. Photos of barriers uploaded.

Trail over the Ham Wall RSPB reserve, which can be busy with walkers. Note - if you've got anything much wider than a normal road bike you may struggle to get it through the A frames at the ends of the trail. The photos I've uploaded show one of the frames, with a tourer with 42cm bars for comparison. Apparently the gate at one end (west) of the trail has a RADAR lock but not the gate at the other end. Very poor accessibility.

An excellent route with all tarmac roads (apart from one very small minor main road section), rest all small side roads with very little car traffic. A number of pubs and eating places along the way, especially Sweets Tea Rooms near Wedmore - seems a favourite for cyclists. Good route for spotting wetland wildlife - especially Egrets and Swans.

Really enjoyed this tranquil bike path. Plenty of places to stop, have a break and check out the wildlife. Everyone seemed so happy to be there; definitely a good place for a family ride.

Lovely single track trail that short cuts through between Glastonbury and Avalon Marshes. Part of cycle route 3 but a shared path so keep an eye out for walkers. There’s a memorial garden to a teenage girl at one end which always breaks my heart. It’s a nice place to stop as there are picnic tables and bike stands but I always feel so sad for the family.

It’s part of national cycle route 3 so cyclists are more than entitled to use it, but bear in mind that it is a shared path and most people come here to enjoy the nature in peace. There are lots of bird watchers and if you come just before dusk you’ll see some amazing starling murmurations. Good surface of fine, hard packed gravel with a few non-threatening potholes.
