The pretty lady with long, curly hair, carved into the bark of one of the beech trees, is a work of art dating from the late 1940s. It was created by a young man from the village, in love, as a tribute to his teenage sweetheart. The initials H M do not refer to the nearby town of Hamme-Mille, but rather to the initials of the young woman's first and last name. As a side note, this feeling remained unrequited.

The arboretum in Heverlee is the starting point of the so-called path of Ad, which is no less than 26.2 km long, where you will discover forest figures by tree artist Ad Wouters in various places. Officially it is called: "Soft bears, mischievous gnomes, modern Neanderthals, metre-high mushrooms and other playful figures turn the Meerdaalwoud and the Heverleebos into real fairytale forests. The wooden sculptures are the work of local tree artist Ad Wouters and turn your walk into a fun quest full of wonder. Ad cuts the forest figures from the trunks of dead oaks." The Meerdaalwoud is a vast forest area with a network of well-maintained trails that are ideal for mountain bikers. The Warandedreef is a major gravel road that winds through the heart of the Meerdaalwoud. It offers a unique combination of technical sections, fast straights and a number of tough climbs.
