Lake Päijänne is the second-largest lake in Finland, known for its clear waters and beautiful archipelago. From the tower, you can likely admire the vastness of the lake, its numerous islands, and the surrounding Finnish landscape, which would typically include forests and possibly some agricultural areas.

Here you can immerse yourself in Finnish nature, catching glimpses of the lake through the trees.

Jutting out into Päijänne, the Päijätsalo peninsula makes for a great run, with the option of ascending to the 165-metre viewpoint. The woodland here is gorgeous and many trails weave through it.

Sysmä is a lakeside town in Päijänne Tavastia, known for its peaceful countryside, cultural events, and access to Lake Päijänne. The area offers scenic cycling routes through forests, farmland, and small villages, with many quiet gravel roads ideal for trekking or cross bikes. In summer, Sysmä hosts concerts and events, especially during the Sysmän Suvisoitto festival. Cyclists can stop at local cafés, markets, and historical sites like old churches and manor houses. It’s a good base for exploring Päijänne National Park, which is accessible by boat from the nearby harbour.

This parking lot is the perfect starting point for your exploration around Päijänne National Park. The Päijätsalo Circle Trail will take you to the shore. A lookout tower at Päijätsalo offers a breathtaking view. The side trail can be accessed via the Circle Trail.
