Short but steep climb, great views on a clear day

Lovely climb up from the reservoir, quiet road with fabulous views.

Standing proud at 1,600 feet (500 m) to the west of Buxton, Burbage Edge is a glorious objective. The views from its trig pillar are splendid, with rolling moorland in just about every direction. The ridge is the main watershed between the Goyt and Wye Rivers.

Situated in Higher Sutton, on the outskirts of a village 3 miles east of Macclesfield, the second highest pub in Cheshire, the Hanging Gate enjoys spectacular views across the Cheshire Plain. Dating from 1621, this is a proper rustic pub with low ceilings and beams, original stone-flagged floors and roaring fires.
