Easy to ride from Lake Sihl, on the east side there is a fast descent (or long uphill ride...).

A very steep gravel/scree section, challenging even with an e-bike, but manageable. I had to dismount twice because my front wheel wasn't pointing in the right direction. Starting up again is the next challenge. Caution is advised downhill and, if possible, approach the steep sections at a low speed.

The first chapel on the top of the pass was built in the 13th century. It was demolished and rebuilt in the 17th century. After the renovation in 2011, the chapel was re-blessed. The monk Meinrad is said to have lived as a hermit at the top of the pass in the ninth century. Meinrad later moved deeper into the Dark Forest, to what is now Einsiedeln.
