The former border between the partitions

Beautiful nature along the entire length of the route.

The perfect place to relax, the waterfall roars soothingly.

The path runs on both sides of the Tanew River and shows a fragment of one of the most interesting landscape reserves in Roztocze, the "Nad Tawią" reserve. The path starts from the forest parking lot, located on the Susiec-Cieszanów road at the beginning of the village of Huta Szumy, just before the bridge over the Tanew River (driving from Susiec towards Cieszanów). The route is marked in the trees with white squares with a red diagonal stripe. The length of the route is approximately 3 km. Tourists visiting this place are provided with wooden tables and benches, educational boards, wooden platforms with handrails, wooden stairs, waste bins and toilets. This is where you can see waterfalls commonly called "szumy" or "szypoty" and get acquainted with various forest complexes and other extremely interesting elements of nature.

The waterfall on the Jeleń River is 1.5 meters high and is the largest waterfall in Roztocze. It is located on the noise trail on the Tanew River, and the path to it leads through a beautiful spruce forest.

Szumy na Tanew is probably the most beautiful attraction of Roztocze. These are tiny cascades that were formed as a result of the tectonic section of the Tanwi River. Their name, of course, comes from the sound of the water from these small waterfalls. An extremely picturesque place.

According to one of the Roztocze legends, this spring has magical powers. "If a boy and a girl drink water from a spring on a sunny morning or a moonlit spring night, they will fall in love with each other and their love will last for the rest of their lives," the legend promises. Do you dare to try?

At the Congress of Vienna in 1815, new borders were established between the partitions. At that time, the Tanew between Rybnica and Paary and Rebizants became a border river, separating the lands of the Russian partition (Kingdom of Poland) from the Austrian partition (Galicia). Patriotic activists and smugglers crossing the border used an illegal route through Tanew to Rebizants located on the Galician side. The border was heavily guarded, especially on the Russian side. Only the ordynat foresters had free access to the forest between this road and the border, who smuggled banned publications and led independence activists through this route. In June 1901, Józef Piłsudski, who had escaped from the prison hospital in St. Petersburg, was led across the border along this route.
