On the eastern slope of the Hoher Meißner, southwest of Haus Halde, this is the entrance to the Schwalbenthaler Neuer Erbstollen (New Adit), which was built in 1628 as a drainage tunnel for the coal mines on the Meißner slope. After being destroyed by fire in 1780, the tunnel was reopened in 1800 and relined in 1826. The tunnel remained in operation underground for lignite mining until 1888. The water from the tunnel flowed openly to a severely dilapidated structure made of hewn sandstone blocks, which formerly also collected water from the Karlsstollen (Karls Tunnel) and plunged steeply into the "Kaltes Wasser" (cold water) receiving stream. A partially covered water channel made of ashlar blocks is located nearby to drain the Schwalbenthaler Erbstollen (New Adit). Below, to the east of the tunnel, is a semicircular dumping ground used to store the mine's spoil. It is constructed of hewn sandstone blocks, and the floor is paved with natural basalt stones. A sandstone staircase runs along the side of the dumping ground. The Schwalbenthaler Neue Erbstollen (New Heritage Tunnel) with its drainage system and dumping ground is a cultural monument for local and mining history reasons, as a testament to mining on the Meißner River. From the Kalbe summit, the path continues to a boulder field. From there, the panoramic view is even more extensive than from the surrounding vantage points. While there are no benches or shade, this spot is still ideal for a scenic break. I would have liked to mark this spot on the map, but Komoot prohibits it. For whatever reason.
