The Oldendorf gravel pits are a scenic area, ideal for cycling and nature observation. Formed by gravel mining, lakes and wetlands have formed here, which today provide habitat for numerous bird species and other animals. The paths around the ponds are easily accessible and invite you to take a relaxing bike ride. The diverse flora and fauna can be enjoyed, especially in spring and autumn.

Oldendorfer Kiesteiche. Gravel was mined here until 2007. Now this area is a refuge for some rare bird species.

The entire Örtze area is beautiful and very easy to cycle on. I go there very often and once I drove along the Örtze between Winsen and Müden on both sides. --> https://www.komoot.de/tour/751274890 (mountain bike would be recommended for this tour, but not absolutely necessary)

Lüneburg Heath There's no such thing as "the" heath. While the Lüneburg Heath boasts the largest contiguous heathland in Europe, it's actually made up of individual, large areas spread across the entire expanse of the Lüneburg Heath. The exception is the large Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve with its vast heathland. Due to their varying locations, sometimes on a slope, sometimes on the south side, the heathlands bloom at different times, and the start of bloom is almost always the same. This means you can find heather in bloom as early as the end of July, and the last flowers can sometimes still be seen in October. The heathlands are all named, for example, Misselhorn Heath or Ellerndorf Juniper Heath. They are all part of the Lüneburg Heath, making orientation easier.
