The Landwehr is the site of the former border between the town of Hachenburg and the County of Sayn. Two artificially raised earthworks were planted with scrub, making it almost impossible for outsiders to penetrate.

Depending on the season you have to look

In the middle of the forest south of Hachenburg, you'll find a medieval scene. At the remaining remains of the rampart and ditch system, iron guards control access to the town.

The small town of Hachenburg, the "Pearl of the Westerwald," offers a truly idyllic setting. The pretty market square is a sight to behold. Lovingly maintained half-timbered houses stand protectively around the square, and in the center, the Lion Fountain with its golden, two-tailed lion catches your eye. There are a wide variety of dining options here, and you'll be spoiled for choice.

From Birkenweg, at the level of Hachenburg Hospital, you have a beautiful view of Hachenburg Castle, towering above the old town.

This beautiful retrospective illustrates the architecturally outstanding layout of the castle and the old town nestled on a prominent hill above the valley of the Great Nister and therefore certainly has been an important spot that has been "taken over" since ancient times.
