This loop trail circumnavigates almost the entirety of Fort Abercrombie State Park, alternating between narrow, winding forest footpaths and spectacular views out over the cliffs. Keep an eye out for World War II-era artifacts all along the way; this used to be a major coastal defense battery.

The most obvious thing you'll see here is the remains of two mounts for World War II-era eight-inch gun mounts; there's an example of what the guns themselves looked like, too. That said, don't forget to look out over the water, too. The point is a great lookout for spotting humpback, gray, and fin whales, and sometimes killer whales (orcas) as well.

It may not look like much from the outside, but this volunteer-run museum is a real gem. Housed in a World War II-era ammunitions bunker, it contains a number of military artifacts dating as far back as World War II. Many of them are still in working order and meant to be touched and interacted with, including an old teletype machine and field radios. This viewpoint brings you out of the trees enough to get a nice lookout over the surrounding area, and maybe even a peek of Kodiak (the city) through the trees.

This is one of the easiest and most popular trails in Kodiak (or as good as, since it's right next door on Near Island; you can walk here from the harbor if you want to). It offers great views, and you'll find multiple side trails leading down to rocky beaches along the water's edge. Don't forget to stop by Harborside Coffee and borrow a can of bear spray — that's always a good thing to have when hiking in bear country, and they loan it out for free.
