Pass at the foot of Pointe des Mattes and on the northern slopes of Mont de Grange. It is accessible from the Trébentaz refuge to the northwest. From this one, a well marked and landscaped path crosses a steep corridor in course of switchbacks to reach the pass. On the other side, grassy mountain pastures and a few shepherds' huts.

Very nice refuge with an incredible view of the Chablais. Located at the foot of Mont de Grange and just under the Col des Mattes, you can climb there simply to eat, or as a "variant" stage of the GR5.

Impressive waterfall that pierces the mountain and offers a refreshing bath. Easily accessible from the Chapelle d'Abondance, it makes for a great family outing.

A bit off the GR5 but a good alternative and great views as you continue south.

The "sur Bayard" waterfall at 1,130 meters above sea level is a haven of freshness during the scorching summers that heat the southern foothills of Mont de Grange. Fed in winter by snows and in autumn by heavy rains, the waterfall flows continuously throughout the year.

If you feel like going back up to the mountains with a piece of cheese in your bag, stop at the Chapelle d'Abondance fruit shop. They offer cow's cheeses ranging from Tomme to Reblochon (be careful with soft cheeses if it's hot. It would be a shame if it leaked onto your sleeping bag). The fruit maker also offers tours of the workshop and maturing cellars.

The Trébentaz refuge offers 24 dormitory beds as well as two tent pitches. You can also dine like a king in an authentic and family atmosphere. Whether for overnight stays or meals, it is mandatory to book in advance.
