The approximately 2700 footprints of different types of dinosaurs are in one of the Obernkirchen sandstone quarries. They were discovered in 2007 and 2008 and exposed by paleontologists from the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover. The traces were found within the 6 to 9 meter thick Obernkirchen sandstone, which lies under younger surface layers here. The trace fossils are attributed to the Berriasian (Lower Cretaceous, about 145.5 to 140.2 million years ago) and lie in two horizons. In the lower horizon there are mainly traces of smaller theropods, which are often referred to as "raptors" in the media. In the upper horizon, traces of animals from different ages that resemble Iguanodontipus and cf. Caririchnium dominate. The fact that the traces were so well preserved is due to the fact that the fresh prints were quickly superimposed by storm sands. Source: Wikipedia

Very beautiful, gentle valley with many meadows along the Waltershagener Bach. In March / April, under the beech trees that are not yet leafy, a variety of spring flowering plants can be seen - spring flowers, celandine, wood anemones, lungwort and so on. In addition, huge carpets of wild garlic grow everywhere. But be careful! The Waltersbachtal is a nature reserve (NSG). If you want to harvest wild garlic for your homemade pesto, there are also plenty of collection points outside the NSG.

Beautiful hiking trail on the slope of the Kappenberg from the Hassel parking lot near Nienstedt, or the Nienstedt bus terminus (from Ehestorf or Bad Münder). In March, Märzenbecher bloom down by the brook. Hiking trail WE 2 from Eimbeckhausen or, area hiking trail two white lines from Bennigsen to Bad Nenndorf.

Just great up here. Suspended but sure. Thanks to the railing: 'The Teufelskanzel or the Green Altar is located where the cliff path leads down from the Platteauweg. In June the grain is beautifully high, when the wind blows through the barley it looks beautiful. Elderberry blooms everywhere and flower umbels can also be collected for a refreshing punch or elderflower syrup, and the Hassel accompanies us everywhere, which is a nice refreshment for the dogs.
