9월 23, 2025, Crezéepolder Information Board
The Crezéepolder is a 75-hectare nature reserve outside the dikes on the Noord river between Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht and Ridderkerk, in the Dutch province of South Holland. The Crezéepolder was formerly used for agriculture after the gorse (sedges) were reclaimed around the Second World War. Instead of being an agricultural polder, the Crezéepolder will become a nature reserve. The development of this new nature and recreation area involves, among others, Rijkswaterstaat South Holland South, the province of South Holland, the municipalities of Ridderkerk, Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, and Oasen.[1] Two openings were made in the dike to allow freshwater from the Noord river to flow in at high tide. The water flows in and out twice a day. The difference between high and low tide here is approximately 90 cm. This is rare in both the Netherlands and Europe. Due to its location on the river, the area is attractive to rare and scarce animals and birds. Source and more information: Wikipedia

The first 2 years of my life I lived opposite this forest. I can't remember anything about it but it does create a bond. My grandmother, where we lived at the time (shortage of housing is everyday) sometimes told that her father secretly went chopping wood during the war. That was of course extremely dangerous. Despite the logging during the war, the forest has dried out considerably and in some places is a beautiful rich forest.

The Kralingse Bos is the most loved forest of the people of Rotterdam: "Today is a day of joy, because a forest is being planned." The Kralingse Bos is the most loved forest of the people of Rotterdam. Perhaps also because it was partly implanted by the Rotterdam youth themselves.

Polder De Esch is part of the green corridor that runs through Rotterdam. From the Rotte, via the Kralingse bos, Burgemeester Oudlaan, Honingerdijk, De Esch to the island of Brienenoord. The Esch is a meander located on the Maas and is part of the river landscape. It consists of meadows and nature reserve. Old part of Rotterdam Around the beginning of the common era it was a peat area and no significant river flowed there. Only from the twelfth century onwards did a river flow with such a size that clay could be deposited on the peat. After the construction of the Schielandse Hoge Zeedijk in 1270, the area became inside the dike and therefore a polder with a meadow. The dike had to be raised in the late 1960s. The Rotterdam municipal council decided to build this new dike slightly inland, so that a bend for the river could be cut here. The area within the new dike was then reclaimed, but the old dike was not removed and the plan to cut off the river was never implemented. Because there has not yet been any elevation in this area, it is still really an old part of Rotterdam.

Nature reserve De Esch is located behind the buildings of Rotterdam's old drinking water area. Here you walk on narrow sandy paths and between gigantic trees. You can pick blackberries, climb trees and watch wild flowers. Who knows, you might hear an owl calling in the tall trees.
