Penne-d'Agenais is located on a rocky promontory. Listed as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France," this medieval village features beautiful flower-lined streets and magnificent views of the Lot Valley.

Sustained climb from the Lot valley

As early as the year 1000, a place of worship existed here. It was completely destroyed in 1562 by the Protestants. The statue of Notre-Dame was saved from destruction during the Revolution. In the 19th century, a new sanctuary was built on May 14, 1897. This Roman-Byzantine style building, which dominates the Lot valley, was not completed until 1948. Important pilgrimages to the Virgin take place here.

The old village center of Penne-d'Agenais, dominated by the silhouette of the Notre-Dame de Peyragude basilica, a Romanesque-Byzantine building that can be recognized thanks to its golden dome, is a real invitation to stroll: the sloping alleys between beautiful houses, the Paul Place Froment, ideal for sipping a drink, and the many craft workshops are all attractions that make up the charm of this place.
