Pursiala pothole is a 8-metre deep natural feature, specifically a giant’s kettle (Hiidenkirnu in Finnish) formed by glacial meltwater. Discovered in 1965, the site was only just spared from development, as the outcrop was being blasted for construction use. It is nowadays protected and one of the Saimaa Geopark sites. Otherwise a great sight, the setting adjacent to industrial area is not the nicest possible. There is a small parking lot close to the pothole. Alternatively, a hike here can be combined with other nearby sights like Kaihu Esker and Mikkelinpuisto park.

Pursiala Hiidenkirnu is one of the largest in Finland (depth 8 m, diameter 2-3 m). It was formed about 11,400 years ago.

From its yard starts a 1.3 km nature trail around an old mill environment, with campfire spots along the way. The nature trail is not suitable for cycling due to its narrow path, roots, and elevation changes. In summer, you can borrow kayaks, cargo bikes, SUP boards, and rowboats free of charge. The nature center is open from Tuesday to Sunday during the summer season. Summer season 2025 opening hours: – Opens 3.6.2025 – Closed during Midsummer 20.–23.6.2025 – June–July: Tue–Sun 11:00–19:00, closed on Mondays – August: Wed–Sun 11:00–19:00, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

Old wooden church, repair designed by Alvar Aalto is located along the road 62 between Puumala and Mikkeli. Alvar Aalto designed the church repair in 1926.
