Because it's been mentioned here: signs with explanations explicitly ask visitors NOT to touch the stones. Touching them isn't good for them, and that's exactly why (because people just couldn't resist it) Stonehenge was eventually sealed off and is as sad as it is today. The visitor center has been undergoing major expansion for some time now and is inaccessible!

You'll feel like you've stepped back in time and experienced life in a typical small-scale farming community of the last century. You can observe traditional crafts, including the weaving of the famous Harris Tweed. You can purchase souvenirs of your visit in the small shop and enjoy delicious homemade food in the cafeteria. https://www.gearrannan.com/

Unlike other highlights, the runway leads directly into the sea and can therefore only be used at low tide.

The airport can only be reached at low tide, which can lead to flight delays. Barra is served twice daily by Logan Air's Twin Otter.

The Callanish Standing Stones are a remarkable ancient site on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. They are a group of 13 stones arranged in a circle, with four rows of smaller stones radiating from it. They were erected around 5,000 years ago and may have been used for astronomical observations or rituals.

It is well worth listening to the stories of the old men in the museum.

Get there at either sunrise or sunset for the best photos. There’s a nice visitor centre, cafe and toilet facilities with parking. The parking is free as is access to the three sites.

Built to aid shipping in the 1860's, it's unusual in that it remained unpainted and is a plain brick tower. This was one of the last lighthouses to be automated in 1998. There is also a modern GPS base station on the site.

The croft village of Garenin uses the traditional low stone and thatch long houses but has modernised them inside to create comfortable holiday cottages. Visit on a ride to have a look at the fascinating history displayed in the on-site museum or make this a base and stay in one. There is also a cafe onsite. It's all open seasonally normally from the end of March.

Callanish Stones are thought to have been erected in the late Neolithic era, between 2900 & 2600 BCE. They are arranged in a cruciform pattern with a central stone circle. It's an amazing place to visit.

12월 29, 2022, Eriskay Causeway
The causeway: As it's one of the very few bits of straight two lane road (most of the rest are single track with passing places) some people drive a bit too fast. There is a fair bit of loose chippings. A car that overtook me very fast threw up a chipping, which just caught the helmet, above my eye. After that I got into the habit of just lowering my head a little after a car overtook me. And I wear cycling glasses now anyway.

We holiday on Eriskay every year. So each cycle ride has to start by crossing the causeway. If there's a strong wind it can feel hard, or easy, depending which way you're crossing, and which way the wind is blowing. Once you're on South Uist it's mainly single track with passing places. All pretty level. If you're going north, follow the Hebridean Way, which parallels the "main" road up to Daliburgh, but has practically no traffic. Turn left off the main road, just after the Church, towards Boisdale. If you go off the road you can cycle over farm tracks to the tidal island of Orasay, and the magnificent Boisdale beach. You don't need a mountain bike, my tourer managed it fine (32mm tyres) East Kilbride cafe is good for snacks (but might close sooner than you think). Am Politician on Eriskay good for full meals, as is The Polachar Inn.

The most scenic airport you will ever see. Well worth going at the correct times to watch the planes land.
