Amazing views on the Loch.

The restoration will take some time

March 2025 - I'm told Gouk Hill path has been improved and is more easily passable but still rough.

Feb 2025 - Gouk Hill path has been buried under 2m or 3m of fallen trees. They're doing an incredible job to re-open it by cutting a trench through the stacks of fallen trees. The path is passable downhill W to E with a bike but very, very rough. It would be a nightmare in the other direction. Take care not to break an ankle or impale yourself when stepping on and over logs. Some deep mud. Below the castle (with limited opening hours) there is the Castle Park, which is open all day and offers beautiful views of the castle. There is also the bowling club with a clubhouse and outdoor area. Here too, it seems that it is permitted to spend the night in a camper van in the car park. The large shops (including Morrisons and Lidl, with many snack bars nearby) are only about a kilometer away on foot, and the city center is similarly close (directly behind them).
