Leominster is the largest of the five market towns of Herefordshire, second only in size to the city of Hereford itself. It was famed for its wool trade, the prized 'lemster' wool of its Ryeland sheep being of very fine quality — the envy of many. The town centre has a quintessentially English feel, with many medieval timber-framed buildings and narrow streets. Occupying a part of the Herefordshire Plain, the surrounding countryside is flat and offers some pleasant ambles.
