In the middle of a small green area within the village, a cross rises atop a tall stone shaft. However, as hikers notice upon approach, this is by no means a small sacred monument in the sense of the wayside crosses common in some regions. Rather, this monument, like those found in many villages, is dedicated to the memory of the victims of war and tyranny.

The Warden’s Way is a 14 mile (22.5 km) linking trail between the Oxfordshire Way in Burton-on-the-Water and the Cotswold Way National Trail in Winchcombe. It was determined that the Warden’s Way would visit the villages of Lower and Upper Slaughter, Naunton, and Guiting Power, while its sister route, the Windrush Way, just to the south, would literally mirror the same start-end point but avoid settlements of any kind.

An absolutely stunning river any time of the year. Packed full of brown trout in late spring, so take your polarised glasses and keep an eye out for them!

Trick your family or friends into thinking you need to go all the way through then laugh at them when they realise you just came out the same way you came in.

Wonderful place, perfect to relax and unwind.

Visit on non peak days/months and times it will be much more enjoyable

Famous for its honey-coloured traditional Cotswold stone buildings, Bourton-on-the-Water is often referred to as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds'. The River Windrush runs through the middle of the town with five stone bridges crossing it. The bridges were built between 1654 and 1911.
