I finished my walk with dinner at the Mount Inn. Disposable covers are issued free to hikers to cover up your muddy boots. That's my 'blue' covered boot in the photo. I wasn't sure whether I was being shown to my table or to the scene of a murder 😁 The staff were warm, friendly, attentive and welcoming. Pippa is absolutely lovely. My meal was delicious. It was served piping hot and there was plenty of it. The views from the terrace are fantastic and would probably be even better on a sunny summers evening. I will definitely visit again.

What a great and unexpected pleasure for this 'city boy'. I stepped into the field and the horses all trotted up and surrounded me. They then proceeded to 'guilt trip' me for not having any carrots or apples😁🍏🥕. But they were so calm and gentle. Definitely a highlight for me.

Fantastic views from the top of the hill on the return leg. Looking west/south west I think that is Bredon Hill with the Malvern Hills maybe just visible in the far distance beyond.

Founded in 1246 by the Earl of Cornwall, Hailes Abbey was once the centre of monastic life. The ruins are set in a picturesque landscape and are a wonderful place to relax.

Stanton is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt villages in the Cotswolds. Most of the houses you see today were built 400 years ago — the village church dates to the 12th century — and nearly all are made of locally quarried natural stone.

Laverton is a large hamlet located in the Tewkesbury borough of Gloucestershire. It homes a number of beautiful cottages which display the unique Cotswold vernacular stone architecture that stays true to this area.

Nice views from this monument down over Hailes Abbey and the Cotswold’s. It's at 269 m which gives good views to the north and west.

Fast, flowing and not too bumpy tree lined track. The views towards Salter's Hill and the orchards below are simply stunning but don't look for too long, the descent is rather fast!

Great walk from Buckland following the Cotswold Way to Stanton. My issue was with the style in Stanton at the start of the return trip. I walk alone with my dog, all other styles were dog friendly with dog gates except this one, there was no way we could get through. We went back and further on in the village to the footpath through the churchyard and thankfully this one had a dog gate. lovely views to Wales from the top.

A great climb / descent that is often overlooked. If you don't have off-road tyres then the only way back down is the way you came up; but if you do there are plenty of paths to or from the top.

Patrick Leigh Fermor was the man who is said to have inspired James Bond. His last resting place is here in Dumbleton churchyard, fittingly with a Greek epigram.

Good for daytime food

Start at the Cheltenham Racecourse Park and Ride and its all down hill after coffee.

Great for a simple lunch or coffee.
