Very helpful staff who kindly refilled our water bottles - also pointed out that on entering the main carpark there is a public tap next to the unit/toilets on the left.

A small summit above Risca. Known locally as the "Twmp" (the hump), the pimple or the nipple, due to the shape of the mound on the summit.

Swoop through two tunnels under the Y Mynydd downhill track as you take the blue Pwca singletrack. These are well constructed but look out for puddles as they can get a bit mucky!

If you'd like to follow the blue-rated Pwca trail, this is the point where it peels off to the right, leaving the red-rated Cafall and Twrch trails. It's well signposted and you have to stop here to go through the stone wall circle, which also leads onto footpaths and a play area.

Look for the arch to start riding at Cwmcarn, which marks the start of the red-rated Twrch and Cafall trails. Here you'll also find trail maps and information for these two trails, as well as the two downhill trails, Y Mynydd and Pedalhounds, which are higher up the hill.

Great single track. If you want the track to yourself, mid week and early is best. On a ebike it takes between 1.0 and 1.5 hours to get around it. I guess between 1.5 and 3.0 hours on a mountain bike without a motor, giving you plenty of time to tackle the CAFALL trail which is about the same length and starts from the same place. It is a red trail, but not particularly technical.

Beautiful little walk to take in a trig point and a fantastic Iron Age fort. Twmbarlwm, known locally known as 'the Twmp' (translation: hump), 'the Nipple' or the Pimple because of the mound that lies at its summit, is a hill situated 2 km (1.2 mi) to the northeast of Risca in South Wales. It is often mistakenly referred to as a mountain but is actually a hill due to being under 600 m (2,000 ft). It is 419 m (1,375 ft) high and is a well-known landmark throughout the region. It commands extensive views across what is now the M4 corridor, over Newport and Cwmbran - with part of it coming into Cwmbran - and out over the Bristol Channel. The river then flows through Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. ... That figure excludes the area of the River Wye and the Bristol Avon, both of which flow into the Severn Estuary. The Estuary discharges into the Bristol Channel, which opens into the Celtic Sea and from there into the Atlantic Ocean.

2월 25, 2019, Cwmcarn Twrch Mountain Bike Trail
Cwmcarn Forest in South Wales consists of two red graded singletrack trails and 2 DH tracks. Both the singletrack trails contain lots of long technical climbs as well as some long flowy descents. Rocky in places and some incredible views from the top. Both trails are clearly signposted and easy to follow although do check they aren't closed for forestry works before going. There is also loads of fire roads running throughout the woods which could be incorporated into a ride if the singletracks become too technical. There is a bike shop, cafe and bike wash, plus pay and display car parking facilities at the bottom where all the trails join up.
