nice place to stop after a bit of a walk

Gorgeous little Boardwalk in the woods! And (weirdly!) part of the reason I love hiking in Lower Woods N.R. - I'd been here about 5 times before, if not more, but I'd never seen this little boardwalk! There are so many interconnecting paths & always a new route to explore.

The Monarch's Way is a 625-mile footpath that spans England and was used as the escape route for King Charles II after his defeat by Cromwell. As you make your way along this section of the path, you'll be delighted by wonderful valley views fit with rolling hills and a tree-lined avenue.

Just another field side byway Wish it was a fun way. Leads to the Badminton treeline byway. Probably great on a cross bike in autumn conditions. Wahey.

Nice wooded climb or descent. One of the slightly less strenuous ways up onto the Cotswolds escarpment.

This 100-ft (30m) high monument is a Grade II listed structure, built in 1846 to commemorate soldier and local MP Lord Robert Edward Somerset.

Fantastic bit of gravel with panoramic views to die for

The Somerset Monument was built in 1846 to commemorate Lord Robert Somerset. Lord Somerset was a soldier who fought in the Peninsular War and the War of the Seventh Coalition. he was also MP for Cirencester. It's a grade 2 listed building about 30m high with a viewing platform at the top.

One of those lovely 'chunky" looking churches. Quite impressive really.

A bridleway through fields. It's a little bit rutted at the Highfield Lane end and is probably very muddy here in winter... it soon improves after a short distance though.

Lovely bit of all weather gravel

A lovely picturesque valley, with a stream running besides the road for part of it. Be prepared for the climb out, it is very rough at the bottom and then gets very steep.

Lovely climbs up the monument. The one out of Hillesley is particularly good. After the initial couple of steep ramp between a short descent the main climb is around a steady 6% with fantastic views.

Another lovely spot in the Cotswolds. Not sure if Robert Somerset was as impressive as his tower.
