The view from the footpath down Hooe Lake Valley to the sea is gorgeous whatever the weather. There is a bench up here too so you can take a rest while drinking it all in.

Mount Edgcumbe House was built in the mid 1500's and this country park was the estate and gardens. The estate was sold to the Plymouth City Council in 1988 and has been open to the public ever since. While walking here you will see the landscaped parkland of a country house, views across the Plymouth Sound to the naval base and breakwater, a Bronze Age burial mound, the 15th century church and several military installations designed to defend the important port.

The Plymouth breakwater is about 1.5 km long and protects the harbour from the weather, waves and attacking ships. It was built between 1812 and 1814 from around four million tons of rock.

The Stonehouse (Plymouth) to Cremyll ferry allows access to this beautiful peninsula from the city without the long drive around the estuary. Walking around Mount Edgecombe Country Park and the coast path to Kingsand is wonderful. The ferry takes about 10 minutes, costs £2.50 per adult (Summer 2023) and sales regularly.

Mount Edgcumbe House and Gardens sits on the edge of the Cornish Rame Peninsula. Here you can enjoy varied countryside from parkland, formal gardens and coastal views. It is a quiet spot and both the house and gardens are open to the public. There is a cafe and you can stay overnight in a cottage or a shepherd's hut.
