Billinge Hill 245m P117 (804ft) (DoBIH Hill ID: 5326) [JNSA 15884] County of Lancashire Definitive List summit.

This isn't a road! It's a technical, eroding in places, climb of rocks, moor grass & bogs.

I visited on a sunny day, it was warm at the bottom and very windy at the very top. The route was quite easy.

A grand, high-level cruise around the West Pennine Moors. The route follows long chunks of the Witton Weavers’ Way on good tracks so is suitable for a winter’s night. It can, however, get claggy in the woods. The bridleway signage is a lot more generous on the ground than the map would suggest, especially if you have an older map.

It's a beautiful area well woth the ride

Found on a lovely spot through the Japanese Gardens, via Rivington Pike, up to Winter Hill mast and this Trig point. The pillar is in good condition and set in a wonderful position.

Rivington Pike is a hill on Winter Hill, part of the West Pennine Moors at Rivington, Chorley in Lancashire, England. The nearest towns are Adlington and Horwich. The land and building are owned and managed by Chorley Council. The Pike Tower is a prominent local landmark and is located at the summit, it is part of Lever Park. The area is popular with hill walkers and for mountain biking.

Although only standing at 245m Billinge Hill is one of the best bits of high ground you can run to from Blackburn. The summit has great views over the city and local Witton Park. It makes a great addition to a run around the park and can be added after the Saturday parkrun.

Part of the west Pennine Hills Winter Hill stands at 456m. There is a trig point and several radio and communications masts on the summit. There is also a memorial to a plane that crashed here in 1958 on a flight from the Isle of Man to Manchester. The busy summit (items rather than people) makes a great loop from Rivington of about 10km.

Amazing area

Built in 1898 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, Darwen Tower (often referred to as Jubilee Tower) stands proud at 85 feet (26 m) in height on top of Darwen Hill, which is already 1,220 feet (372 m) above sea level. It is a popular objective for hikers, which is fitting because it was also built to celebrate a victory in the local people's fight to gain access to the moorland. There's an internal staircase that allows walkers to climb the tower. From the very top, the views are unsurprisingly stupendous. On a clear day, the mountains of the Lake District can be seen, as well as Morecambe Bay, Blackpool Tower, the Isle of Man and North Wales. Of course, closer at hand stretch the wild moorlands of the West Pennines.

Walking boots and a wind proof jackets are a wise choice as it is quite open to windy wet weather. The hill has so many stories /history from mystery murder too plan crashes, also home to local tv mast is on this hill.
