This is a gorgeous spot next to the River Windrush where you can pull up a picnic blanket, read a book, and enjoy the best of the idyllic Cotswold countryside.

Bridge built in early 1800's (stone on one side says 1834). Has a carving of a gun on the south side of the bridge on top of the wall.

This pretty village of Cotswold stone and thatched roofs is romantically positioned on the River Windrush. Reputedly the region’s most haunted village, Minster Lovell is best known for the ruins of its 15th century hall, owned by generations of the Lovell family and now an impressive ancient monument.

Crawley Mill on the Windrush was part of the Witney area's former blanket-making industry. It has a mill stream and was originally water-powered but was later converted to steam power. It is now an industrial estate. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/oxon/vol14/pp177-186#h3-0004

Minster Lovell Hall is a ruin in Minster Lovell, an English village in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. The ruins are situated by the River Windrush. Minster Lovell Hall was built by William Lovell around 1440. As Minster Lovell was one of the earliest estates held by the Lovell family and one of their main residences it was at least the second building occupying this site. In 1747 large parts of the buildings were dismantled. By the early nineteenth century, the ruins of Minster Lovell Hall were thought to have been the buildings of an alien priory. Legend According to one report, a skeleton was discovered in the basement of Minster Lovell Hall in 1718 and was thought to be that of Francis Lovell who had hidden there after the Battle of Stoke and had died of starvation. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely this is the case. Francis Lovell spent little time in Minster Lovell and therefore would have no faithful servant there who could hide and feed him for years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minster_Lovell_Hall

The village was named Minstre, situated in the ancient hundred of Bampton in 1086. The dedication of the Church of England parish church to the Saxon Saint Kenelm and the name "Minster" in the toponym suggest that the village may have had a Saxon minster, possibly associated with a Mercian royal vill. However, the earliest known documentary record of the church is from 1183 and the present St. Kenelm's Church is the product of complete rebuilding in the 15th century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minster_Lovell
