Watch out for some fly-tipping mess at the western, Hitchin Road end. The undergrowth was also fairly dense in peak-summer.

The River Oughton flows next to Oughtonhead Common and the footpath between the two makes for a lovely place to run. You will also find a number of trails across the common. There are a variety of habitats on the common which is a nature reserve managed by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. Keep and eye out for woodcock and kingfishers.
