Nice town. Free trade town.

You don't always get through the forest with dry feet, so appropriate footwear helps. Otherwise, it's a very idyllic, varied section. Sometimes you come right to the river!

The first church was built here in 1086. Even then, the "centuries-old yew tree" was mentioned - its age is now estimated at 1200 - 1400 years. Legend has it that anyone who manages to walk backwards around it 7 times will have one wish granted. In any case, it is a beautiful, ancient tree that looks pretty healthy and that you just want to hug!

The community orchard is part of the village. There are several apple trees, a couple of paths and some benches. They hold a Wassail each year to help the harvest :-)

The Yew in the churchyard of St Mary & St Gabriel is thought to be between 1,000 and 2,000 years old. The carved wooden slices are from a Leyland Cyprus, they depict the important church events that would have happened in the last 2,000 years.

The Curator Cafe is a great artisan coffee shop in Totnes. They roast and sell coffee beans (or ground) as well as great mugs of coffee, cake, and light meals. Some outside seating and plenty of inside seating. Very friendly.

One of the independent artisan coffee shops for which Totnes is justly famed. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Can get very busy on a weekend morning!

Totnes Castle is a classic Norman motte and bailey. It's perched on a hill above the town where it would have commanded the area and the important inland harbour of the River Dart. The castle was originally an earth and timber construction. The first stone castle was built in the 13th century and then re-built as you see it today. Managed by English Heritage there is an entry fee if you're not a member but the views from the walls are well worth it.

An atmospheric country pub that serves good food and drink and offers rooms. The food is good classic pub grub with a lean towards locally sourced products and seafood. Open 12:00 till 21:00 but sometimes a bit later if it's busy. Food served 12:00 - 14:00 & 18:00 - 20:00.

The Harbourne River flows down from Harbourne Head near the Avon Dam to reach the Dart and then the sea. The last tidal section is known as Bow Creek. It's an arm of the upper Dart Estuary with a nice quiet path along its southern shore.
