Lambourne Church was built in the 12th century, but almost entirely reconstructed in the 13th century. It's a white-painted building with a beautiful weather boarded belfry and a lead covered broach spire that soars out the top. It's in a really peaceful spot in the rural Essex countryside and in close reach from London.

Theydon Bois, despite being on the Central line of the London Underground, is a tranquil and attractive village in the Epping Forest region. It's a great place to start a hike in the nearby woodland and the official 6.6-mile (10.6km) Oak Trail begins from the station. There are a few great pubs and restaurants near the station too, perfect for a post-hike refuel.

The station was opened as "Theydon" by the Great Eastern Railway on 24 April 1865 but in December that year it was renamed to its present name.
