The Rother rises in Hampshire near Liss Forest and flows south to Petersfield before veering east into West Sussex where it flows along the foot of the South Downs to join the River Arun near Hardham. This captivating tree tunnel runs next to a large sand quarry on Stedham Common. Adorned with lush pines, the 1,000-feet (300-m) path runs in a straight line along a bridleway to Minsted Road.

An old quarry that is now a lake. Not open to the public and dangerous to approach, but impressive if care is taken.

An important breeding site for both nightjars and stonechats, Stedham Common makes for a great walk for bird watchers. It is also rich in invertebrates making the most of the varied habitats found here. The common is part of the wider Iping and Stedham Common National Nature Reserve, which covers 310 acres (125 ha) of heathland.

The market town of Midhurst is nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park. There are some splendid walks on the town's doorstep. From vibrant woodland, ablaze with the colour of wildflowers, to wide, open heathlands that reward with huge panoramas, there's plenty to explore in the surrounding countryside. The magnificent Tudor ruins of Cowdray House lie just to the east of the town. The manor was large destroyed by a fire on 24 September 1793.
