Leigh Woods is a beautiful woodland area and a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, and nature lovers alike, offering stunning views of the Avon Gorge and Clifton Suspension Bridge. The woods are home to a variety of wildlife, including deer, foxes, and badgers. There are also a number of interesting historical features to be found, such as the remains of a Roman villa and a 17th-century ironworks. It is a great place to visit for a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike. There are a number of different trails to choose from, ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate. The woods are also a great place to take a picnic or have a barbecue, with plenty of spots to choose from.

Stokeleigh Camp in Leigh woods is an Iron Age promontory fort. If they had kept the trees clear, there would be strategic views and steeps terrain down over the river valley. There is evidence of the old wall and ditch fortifications, but not much else.

Nothing crazy, suits a rigid bike to keep things interesting. Obviously if you come a little more equipped then you can probably make the most of the jumps, red loops and features. Some of the drops in the later sections and some of the climbing can be challenging for a beginner but there's nothing here to really sweat about.

Ashton Court rewards with panoramic views across Bristol. Many of the city's landmarks are visible, including Ashton Gate Stadium and Brandon Hill. On the far horizon you can see the distinctive clump of trees that adorn the top of Kelston Roundhill above Bath.

After a walk in the woods, you've earned a coffee and a slice of cake, right? Leigh Woods Coffee Co. is a stall based at the Abbots Leigh Road car park and it is a popular stop off for walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers. If your legs are tired after the day's exertions, there are benches and plastic seats for you to take the weight off. This being the main car park, there's also plenty of information about Leigh Woods' trails.

Abbotts Pool is a lovely little lake surrounded by woodland. You reach the lake via a network of lanes and bridleways. It lies on the NCN Route 334. The pools were closed in 2020 due to littering and anti-social behaviour. Makes sure you leave no trace so that humans can enjoy the beautiful spot alongside its wildlife.

Nice trails on a dry day but a bit sketchy on CX bikes when wet underfoot

West Tanpit Wood is a peaceful woodland with the picturesque Markham Brook flowing through its heart. The wood is home to many species of bird, including buzzards, which can regularly be seen and heard soaring above the canopy. The wood gets its name because Markham Brook was used for leather tanning in medieval times.

Abbots Pool is a tranquil pond nestled within an idyllic mature woodland. The pond was originally part of a series of pools developed by medieval monks to farm fish. Due to some antisocial behaviour at the pond, activities such as swimming and barbecues have been banned. However, there are still lots of beautiful trails to explore in this nature reserve, which is home to much wildlife including deer, bats and birds.

From this spot, you get an amazing view of Clifton Suspension Bridge crossing the Avon Gorge with the city behind it. Behind the viewpoint is Stokeleigh Camp, an Iron Age fort. There are lots of trails to explore in Leigh Woods and the surrounding countryside.

A lush little offshoot from the car park which is really sessionable for some jump practice. All jumps are really rollable so no need to clear any of them.
