This is a charming church featuring a square tower which is characteristic of Sussex's medieval architecture. In front of the church is a bench where you can stop and pause before continuing your journey.

If you choose to skirt the village to the south on the Ditchling to Lewes Road, watch out for a section of pink road by the half moon pub. It climbs steeply whilst cornering and is an important place to adopt an assertive road position so that you remain visible .

Plumpton is a charming village of two halves. The southern end of the village is cut across by the South Downs Way near the site of an Early Bronze Age settlement. North of the track is a chalk-cross with a sandstone block at its centre, which commemorates the Battle of Lewes in 1264.

At the top of Westmeston Bostal, you'll find a small wooden bench overlooking a fabulous patchwork view of the Sussex and Surrey countryside, which stretches as far as the North Downs on a clear day. The Bostal itself links the South Downs Way to the village of Westmeston via a dramatic chalky technical descent.
