When the future Queen Victoria visited Broadstairs, Snelling was so notorious that he was introduced to her as "The Famous Smuggler"! The Grade II listed building, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, is also known as the boathouse (named after the lifeboat used from 1869 to 1912) and harbormaster's office.
