Sankey Valley Park is a public park in Warrington, Cheshire. It occupies part of the Sankey Valley, and the main park itself covers over 1½ miles between Sankey Bridges in the south and Callands in the north. The valley follows the course of Sankey Brook and the now disused Sankey Canal. The park is enjoyed by walkers, cyclists and anglers, and the central section of the park is family orientated with children's play features, a maze and lawn areas. Bewsey Old Hall (and the Maltings Public House) sit on the edge of the central section of the park. The Trans Pennine Trail passes around 500 yards (460 m) from the southern tip of the park. Nice for a bike ride or walk, gets busy but everyone is just nicer to each other when in nature. Plenty of fishing too, see 'Newton Anglers Association'

The Sankey Canal opened in 1757, following the valley along the Sankey Brook, however was abandoned between 1931 and 1963. The canal has been under restoration since 1985 with the formation of the Sankey Canal Restoration Society. The trail then enters the linear Sankey Valley Park, a lovely green corridor, that has links to the Trans-Pennine Trail and follows a stretch of Sankey Canal and Sankey Brook. Along the way you will pass through woodlands, farmlands, and parkland with scenic paths and chance to spot some wildlife as you wind to Carr Mill where you can enjoy some refreshments. Returning to the start will require more than one bus so check schedules before heading out. While for the most part the paths are well-surfaced but care is needed in wetter conditions when sections can be muddy and slippery. There are also some stairs along the route.

Nice lake in St Helens good for a stop on your bike. The path can get extremely muddy in winter months. MTB, gravel or hybrid bike would be best in winter.

The Sankey Canal is accompanied by a path that is good for walking and cycling. You are on the path in the middle of nature.

The Sankey Canal was opened in 1757 to transport coal from mines in the St Helens area to Liverpool and Cheshire. It was the first canal during the Industrial Revolution and the first modern canal. The Mucky Mountains are a former chemical dump. Today they are a landscape with interesting flora and a nature reserve. Here you can find, among other things, the dogwort, a type of orchid that is particularly in need of protection because it is relatively rare. You can also find quaking grass here. This is a large open grassed area situated between the hall & a large pond at canals end were ducks, swans & heron's often to be seen. it's primarily a picnic area with some Benches around paths running around it. You can also enter the maze from here.
