East Gallery at Norwich University of the Arts is one of the UK’s leading university galleries and commissioning venues. Located in the heart of Norwich, we are a professional exhibition space dedicated to showcasing innovative and challenging contemporary art and design practice. Building on the legacy of EAST International, we look to bring new, exciting and diverse voices to the region to inspire creativity, in all its forms. We create exhibitions with exceptional artists, designers, academics, and researchers, using our space as a dynamic platform for fresh perspectives and critical conversations. As a university gallery, we recognise our unique role in supporting artists whose work engages with or emerges from research with bold or challenging themes. All our exhibitions are free admission, and are accompanied by a programme of lectures, seminars, workshops and performances.

The only place to get up high for a view over Norwich. Part of the Mousehold Heath Woodland Area to the east of the city, it's an easily accessible and beautiful hike/walk from the city centre. Enjoy views of Norwich Cathedral as you take a well-deserved rest on the well-placed bench.

Norwich Castle is undergoing major works to restore the floors to their original level of the 12th century so future visitors can truly appreciate what life in the castle was like when it was built. It is still possible to appreciate the royal Norman fortress from the outside.

Once the heart of Saxon Norwich, Tombland Alley was the marketplace and would have been full of hustle and bustle. The two splendid gates, Erpingham and St Ethelbert's lead out of the alley and date from the 15th and 12th century respectively. Some say that the alley is haunted by a girl stuck in Augustine Steward House which sits over the footpath. Her family died of the plague in the 16th century so the property was boarded up, except she was still alive. She starved to death and now haunts the spot of the tragedy.

Norwich Castle comprises the castle, a museum and art gallery. The castle site is at least 900 years old but may currently be closed due to redevelopment. The large gallery complex converted from the city’s Victorian prison remains open during the works. It houses collections in archaeology, natural history, regimental history, and fine, decorative and contemporary art. Construction work has begun on the Norwich Castle: Royal Palace Reborn project to transform the medieval castle. Because of the building work and health and safety measures to protect visitors and staff, some areas of the castle site are not open.
