In the capital of Albania, the birthplace of Mother Teresa, born in Skopje (now North Macedonia) in 1910, the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, who worked for many years in India, is being honored. Mother Teresa—awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, who died in 1997, and canonized in 2016—once described herself succinctly: "By birth I am Albanian, by nationality Indian; I am a Catholic sister. Through my mission I belong to the whole world, but my heart belongs only to Jesus." The linked photo shows her as many will have known her from the media: => https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutter_Teresa#/media/Datei:MotherTeresa_094.jpg

The circular hike is not recommended! It's best to return the same way.

7월 20, 2025, Statue of Sulejman Pasha Bargjini
Sulejman Pasha Bargjini (Turkish: Berkinzâde Süleyman Paşa) was an Albanian general of the Ottoman Empire and a local feudal lord. He is considered the founder of Tirana, the capital of Albania. Sulejman Pasha originally came from Bargjin but settled in the village of Mullet, a few kilometers south of Tirana. He served as a Janissary and was given the title of Pasha. He led a successful campaign against the Safavid Persian Empire. In 1614, he built the Old Mosque of Tirana, a bakery, and a hammam (Turkish bath). A regional marketplace was established around these buildings, and the city subsequently developed. Therefore, he is considered the founder of Tirana, the present-day capital of Albania. According to local legend, he named the town Tirana after Tehran, the capital of Persia (now Iran). However, this claim is considered disproven. A statue of Suleiman Pasha stands on the site of the mosque he founded and his tomb. A smaller street in another part of Tirana bears his name. Source: Wikipedia

7월 20, 2025, Et'hem Bey Mosque and Clock Tower of Tirana
The Et'hem Bey Mosque was fortunate: neither the fascists nor the communists harmed it (and Enver Hoxha had many churches and mosques razed/destroyed/repurposed!). Begun in 1794, completed in 1821, closed in 1967, and reopened in 1990. Beautiful floral (and European-influenced!) murals. Because the interior is too small, the vestibule is also used for services.

6월 3, 2025, Cyclops' Eye Waterfall
If you walk directly from Krabba to the waterfall and back, the hike is easy. It took us about an hour each way. It's a very impressive area and a lot of fun to hike. There are also signposts at the most important points, and some of the stones are marked.

5월 30, 2025, Bunk'Art 2 Museum
Although the Bunk'art 2 Museum is located in the heart of Tirana's city center, the existence of the former nuclear fallout shelter was long a closely guarded secret. Dictator Hoxha himself ordered its construction in 1981, but he didn't live to see its completion five years later. The underground bunker was so secret that the Albanian population didn't even learn of its existence until 2015, even though it's located directly beneath the streets of the city center.

The Orthodox Resurrection Cathedral features Byzantine architecture with domes, curved arches, and mosaic decorations in its interiors. The cathedral complex houses conference rooms, museum spaces, and archives that serve as centers for Orthodox Christian education. The construction of the cathedral in 2012 marked the religious revival in Albania after decades of restrictions during the communist era. The cathedral reaches a height of 46 meters, with a bell tower, four clocks, two basement levels, and a main hall for 850 people.
