The star disc is a wonderful place to visit, at time I did this the steps up to viewing platform were not accessible

This place is well worth a visit with plenty of signs explaining the history of the quarry

Tough hill to climb at constant incline but worth it when get to top, view are amazing

Incredible engineering from the past when railway wagons were winched up and down the inclines.

Great spot especially when the engine is running.

The engine house is but a shell these days but a waypoint nonetheless. Great views over the valley make this a get place for a break. Some seating.

Steeple House railway station was a small station on the Cromford and High Peak Railway, located on the edge of Wirksworth in Derbyshire. It opened in 1855 for passengers and served the area until its closure in 1876. The station site is now a peaceful spot surrounded by picturesque landscapes.

Actually, really interesting to see the different types of dry stone walls side-by-side. Each wall has a small information board that puts things into context. Dry stone walls are something we hikers probably pass by continuously without a second thought but these examples show how different such walls are in different parts of the UK. It's well worth a detour to visit especially since there's a good visitor centre/cafe on site.

By the 1870s Hopton Incline's winding engine had given 40 years' service and was life-expired. During that time locomotive power had improved, in 1877 Hopton incline's chains and engines were removed, after which the incline became a conventional adhesion railway; trains ascended the bank under their own power and descended using their own brakes.

The Hopton Incline was the steepest stretch of conventional, adhesion-worked standard gauge railway in the UK. The incline was situated in sparsely populated, exposed limestone uplands in the Peak District. It is possible that steeper stretches were to be found in sidings, but the Hopton Incline was on the former Cromford and High Peak Railway's single-track main line as inherited by British Railways.
