Occupying an enviable spot on Rockland Staithe, the New Inn is a traditional country pub. It serves great food and drink, perfect for a refuel after exploring Rockland Broad and the trails along the River Yare. The 38-mile (61 km) Wherryman's Way long-distance trail passes right by the door too.

Set on the edge of the Surlingham Church Marshes, St Mary's Church boasts a superb round tower. The building contains a blend of 18th-century brick and early medieval flintwork, which lends it much of its character. It's just a short walk from here to the evocative ruins of St Saviour's, home to the grave of well-known naturalist Ted Ellis.

Overlooking the Yare Valley's marshland, the ruins of St Savior's Church are a beguiling sight. Originally built in the 11th century, the building fell into disrepair and has been a ruin for the last two centuries. The modest grave of naturalist Ted Ellis is found here. Ellis lived nearby at Wheatfen Nature Reserve, which he founded and spent much of his years studying.

Bramerton Common is a public green space situated on the banks of the River Yare near Norwich. It's the perfect place to catch your breath and watch the world go by.

Strumpshaw Fen is a nature-enthusiast's playground. The unique wetland habitat attracts a variety of stunning animal and bird species such as kingfishers, bearded tits, and warblers, as well as otters, water voles, and a variety of insects too.

This hide at Strumpshaw Fen is the perfect spot for birdwatching enthusiasts. You'll get up close to the water, where you've got an ideal vantage point to witness the birds in their natural habitat. Spot the likes of marsh harriers, colourful kingfishers, elusive bitterns and bearded tits amongst many others.

A short wooden walkway leads you to a pleasant seating area featuring a bench surrounded by beautiful flora.

The Ferry House is a delightful pub situated on the banks of the River Yare. They serve throughout the whole day and have a wonderful outdoor seating area perfect for a sunny afternoon.

RSPB Rockland Marshes is a nature reserve with wonderful views over Rockland Broad and the River Yare. The reedbeds and open grazing marshes afford year-round displays of wildlife. Keep a look out for bird species including barn owl, great crested grebe, Cetti's warbler, kingfisher, mute swan, tufted duck, pochard, and goldeneye.

Rockland Broad is a tranquil spot tucked away behind the River Yare. You won't find many boats here, so you can enjoy the calm waters mostly alone. Look out for the huge pike in the clear water during summer.

Surlingham Church Marsh is a small RSPB nature reserve alongside the River Yare. Part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the reserve is a great place for marshland bird watching. There is a circular path that runs around the marshes, reedbeds, fens and pools. Keep a look out for bird species including kingfisher, hobby, marsh harrier, sedge warbler, and water rail. The reserve is also a great place to see butterflies, dragonflies, wildflowers and aquatic plants.

From the Staithe, there are several, waymarked circular walks that take in the Wherryman's Way and part of the National Cycle Network. There's ample free parking and a pub across the road for when you've finished.
