Not the prettiest from the outside but walking in took me by surprise, it is the biggest indoor fun/games/ride attraction I have seen. It has a food area where you can buy snacks and drinks. Can't really visit the pier itself with your bike and wearing road cleats but the driveway approach is quite a spectacle in itself.

Nice walk along the coast. Down along the beach if you have time you can find sharks teeth in the small pebbles. Sunken pill boxes too to see.

Also known as the Hanoverian Tower, Naze Tower was built to aid ships navigating this stretch of coastline, which otherwise has very few landmarks. It would have had a light at the top for nocturnal navigation. The tower is now home to a great cafe and a museum. It is also well worth taking the 111 steps up the tower to bask in the glorious views from the top.

The River Stour flows between Cambridgeshire and Harwich at the North Sea. This section is tidal with sandy beaches which make it feel much more coastal than river.

A House for Essex is a stunning piece of art by FAT Architecture and Grayson Perry. Part of the 'Living Architecture' programme, it is rented out as holiday accommodation and the inside is a gallery of further artwork.

Pier of the year 2020 - why wouldn’t you visit? Open early until late all year round, a great spot for refilling water bottles and a quick ice cream break.

This walk is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Nice pleasant walk for children with plenty of toilets along the route. Safe dirt road runs parallel for those on bikes. Finishes with a small sand beach beside a cafe with a limited menu. Plenty of picnic spots

The lighthouses, commissioned by Trinity House in 1862 and completed in 1863, served to guide ships towards Harwich harbour (some 1.5km to the north) their different heights enabling the two lights to be aligned on approach. They replaced two late 18th century lighthouses at Harwich (the `Low' and `High' lighthouses) which had become unreliable due to shifting sand bars around the mouth of the Stour estuary. A comprehensive pattern of marker buoys in the harbour approach rendered the new lights obsolete in 1917. The lights escaped demolition, but gradually deteriorated through lack of routine maintenance. A major programme of restoration took place between 1983 and 1988. Make sure to come here at low tide with a bit of twilight, then the coloured sheds along the beachline are beautiful for photos. For the rest a not too special beach.

Wrabness Nature Reserve boasts fine views over the River Stour and stunning wildlife displays at all times of the year. Keep a look-out for bird species including nightingale, turtle dove, and short-eared owl.
