BEWARE! - In the Winter, after lots of rain, sodden ground, this segment consists of very sticky/claggy clay-type soil. It sticks & builds-up on your tyres very easily. If you have any mudguards it will lock your wheel solid, even after cleaning the excess away it will clog back up in 10m of pushing bike. The only alternative is to carry your bike, please be warned, this is the stickiest/claggy plaster consistency I have ever come across!

St Chad's was built by Joseph Paget after he inherited his parents' estate and consequently became a senior partner in nearby Pleasley Vale Mills. In 1876, deciding that his household and mill workers needed a church, a chapel was built overlooking the vale, on the Derbyshire side of the River Meden. The chapel was built of timber, painted white, by Cox & Sons of London. After disagreement "over the style of services conducted in the church" Joseph Paget had the church dismantled and rebuilt just over the River Meden boundary in Nottinghamshire, thus moving it from the Diocese of Lichfield to the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. The church was reconstructed in brick and stone, with a bell tower and lead roof.

Despite it's name, the 'lagoon' looked more green than blue to me.

Exploring potential cycle route from Shirebrook/Littlewood Lane through to Pleasley Vale/ St Chads alongside River Meden. Path on west side of Meden obstructed by wooden stile then after 300m steep stone stile - couldn't safely lift ebike. Tried east of river, OK to ride but St Chads exit blocked by tight kissing gate - just managed to get Creo 2 through by lifting up vertical on back wheel.

This Fields in Trust and Green Flag award winning park covers approximately 4.3 hectares comprises of sports pitches, golf fairways, golf greens, tees and areas such as semi mature oak woodland, landscaped woodland plots of scattered pine, sorbus and silver birch, rough acid grassland to the edges and small areas of remnant lowland heath land. Much of the grassland beneath the trees is routinely mown and used for a varied type of sports.

Berry Hill Park, known for its steep coal mining history, sits within around 25 hectares of parkland with a diverse mix of woodlands, mown grassland, acid-grassland and wildflower meadows.
