The Torre El Velerín is a historic coastal watchtower on the Senda Litoral near Estepona. It was built in the 16th century as part of a coastal defense system designed to protect against pirate attacks. From the tower, movements at sea were observed and warning signals were relayed to neighboring watchtowers. Its distinctive features are its round shape and elevated entrance. Today, the Torre El Velerín is a listed historical monument and a testament to coastal history.

Located on the waterfront promenade, this park features many sculptures. All are freely accessible and well-made. A visit is definitely worthwhile.

Parque del Ángel in Estepona is a spacious, modernly designed green space near the coast that combines nature, culture, and recreation. A restored aqueduct, nestled among Mediterranean plants, palm trees, and open meadows, lends the park a historical element. A wooden bridge over the small Hornacinos stream connects the surrounding neighborhoods and blends harmoniously into the landscape. Several sculptures by the artist Santiago de Santiago enrich the park, creating a small open-air museum, while a reconstructed noria (irrigation channel) evokes ancient irrigation systems. A modern calisthenics zone and tranquil pathways complete the offerings, making Parque del Ángel a beautiful place for relaxation, exercise, and photographs.

The Angel Aqueduct in Estepona is an impressive 18th-century relic, a reminder of the region's agricultural past. It is located within the Angel Park, near the Hornacinos Canal and Calle Terral, not far from the modern Playa del Ángel residential complex. This historic structure once irrigated the surrounding fields and was part of an extensive water supply system connecting springs and reservoirs. The aqueduct consists of multi-arched, brick viaducts that carried water over an elevated structure, presumably to mills or agricultural facilities in the area. After years of neglect, it was restored and reopened to the public by the city of Estepona as part of a coastal park revitalization project. Today, it is surrounded by a small park with walking paths and information panels and can be visited free of charge. The Acueducto del Ángel is therefore not only a technical monument, but also a symbol of the connection between history, landscape, and water management in Andalusia. Nestled between modern development and the sea, it tells of a time when water was a precious commodity and the engineering skills of the Moors and their successors laid the foundation for fertile fields and flourishing gardens. 💧🏛️

The tower is located in the Velerín neighborhood. Dating from the second half of the 16th century, it has a circular plan and comprises a room with a fireplace and a brick dome, a staircase, and a terrace. Some of these watchtowers in Estepona also feature a 19th-century guardhouse and machicolations pointing to the four cardinal directions.

We really enjoyed this walk today. The scenery is beautiful. There is a gravel track all the way to where you descend to the river. We did not swim as it is February but there are several ponds in the ri we where you can. Take a beer to drink when you get to the river! In summer you can follow the river along to a lovely waterfall.
