Krčmar (773 m) is a forested hill above Smiljan with beautiful views of the entire Lika region and the Velebit peaks. A steep gravel road, designed as a Way of the Cross, leads to the summit. At the top, there is a cross and just below it a covered shelter. Several inscriptions in Glagolitic script are carved into the summit rocks. Krčmar is part of the Croatian Mountain Trail as an alternative checkpoint for point 14.2, Oštri Medvjeđak (884 m). This spot combines natural beauty, cultural heritage, and panoramic vistas.

Best view in Croatia.

It is exactly as Dominique writes. We were there 10 days later on October 14, 2024. The path does not exist, nor are there any markings. Without hiking boots it is a no-go and definitely not an easy hike for all fitness levels. The descent described after the Panos summit is not possible. A dangerous scree field whose lower exit cannot be estimated. We then walked around the outside of the path (again unmarked) and from the descent in a scree crevice above Plaza Seline there were red markings. From then on it was possible - even with an animal 😉 if you have one.

The path towards Visoka Strana does not exist, there are no trail markings and you have to walk freely over sharp stones and numerous thistles. Definitely not recommended with a dog!!

It is better to hike anti-clockwise! There are some places where you have to climb. Good footwear and mountain experience are required.

Great view from the top. Short climbing is required just before the top, but there is a metal rope available. When I was there, it was slippery (jan. 2023), good shoes required.

This forested peak provides beautiful views across the Velebit Mountains. Visible from the top are Veliki Zavižan to the west and Mali Rajinac to the south east, among others. The less lofty Mali Pivčevac rises to the north.

Velika kosa, at 5,314 feet (1,620 m), is a peak in the Northern Velebit, just to the north of the Velebit Botanical Garden. It's a short ascent from the Zavižan mountain hut to reach the summit. Your reward is magnificent views across the Velebit massif and out to the islands of the Adriatic Sea.

Easy hike via Velika Kosa. A bit of climbing over large rocks towards the peak, but no big deal. It is marked in Cro Mountain rescue service map as dangerous, but in my opinion the danger is very low. If you are VERY short, this route might be a bit difficult. Descent over loose gravel is easy. I wouldn't climb in the opposite direction.

You won't see the lakes from here but the view towards Bosnia is worth it.
